Program: Living and Non-Living Things

Description: Kindergarten and 1st grade students are learning about living and non-living things. This content is loaded with video, images and information that will help your students to better determine whether something is living or non-living. It will include a hands-on activity, questions and answers, a poem, and story as well as high quality interaction. Join us for the fun!

Program: Fairly Fractured Tales

Description: Beginning with clues, objects from fairy tales for younger grades, and quotes from fairy tales for older grades, students will demonstrate current knowledge of traditional fairy tales. We then share a traditional version of a fairy tale, followed by a discussion about common story elements. Classes are encouraged to share a class fairy tale during the video conference as well. We also highlight parts of speech, and show how they make a story meaningful through the use of a mad libs. Finally, a fractured fairy tale is shared (by fractured, we mean a different take from the standard traditional fairy tale) This program was originally intended for 3rd grade audiences, and can still be delivered to that age. We have recently also expanded this program to make it meaningful and appropriate for grades up to 6th.

Program: Irish Immigrant

Description: Irish Immigration, at the height of a massive, nationwide famine, is the topic of this video conference. We focus on the landowner vs. Irish tenant aspect of living in Ireland in 1845 as well as the process of immigration during this famine period. Students will be asked to plan what would be taken if they were asked to leave a country. They will also be working in groups to discuss each side involved: the English Landowner and the Irish Peasant.

Program: Apples in America...From Seed to Shining Seed

Description: Apples are a very diverse crop. They can be found in most areas of the United States. We all love foods made for apples, but do you know how they are grown & what other things can be made with Apples? Join us as we delve into Apples in the Classroom!

Program: Letters to the Old World

Description: Moving to rural Ohio in the early 1800’s from Germany brought homesickness as well as a sense of hope and new beginnings. Zoar historians will share the development of the first successful communal living society as well as types of tools and affects that were used to build Zoar and maintain it. This program is developed as a writing activity – a letter home to Germany describing this new area of opportunity. Geared toward the 3rd grade level. During this session, the mailed packet will be explored, as students are walked through time as they describe what living is like in this new and untamed land.

Program: Postcards From Professor Penguin

Description: Join Professor Penguin as she helps your students understand the Penguin. Students will participate in activities while learning about the habitat, predators, living conditions, and adaptations of penguins. The penguin is a unique animal in many ways, including how they care for their young, and this will be learned during the lesson as well as other fun facts about Penguins. Teachers will need to provide small bags of ice for one activity. The requirements will be emailed upon registration for this program. There will also be a group writing activity during this unit. These standards are Ohio content standards aligned to the 3rd grade level, but are adaptable to other levels, however they are not listed, please keep that in mind when registering

Program: Spending Time with a Pilgrim

Description: During this interactive 45 -50 minute video conference, students will be introduced to Mary Allerton, an original Mayflower passenger whose family did survive the first winter in America. Students will be introduced to lifestyles and hardships of the period, the reasons for the emigration to America as well as the relationships that developed with the Native Americans. Students will complete interactive products as part of the lesson and will be engaged by the use of video and multimedia that supplement the material being taught.

Program: United States Symbols

Description: Join us as we learn about United States symbols and what that means. We will be learning about the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, the White House and our United States Flag. Children will be actively engaged in the learning process during this session.

Program: Constitution Conversations (Constitution Day)

Description: This session will discuss our Nation's most prized document, the United States Constitution. Students will be asked to participate in law and decision-making processes as part of this curriculum. They will also be sharing in the every day language of our Constitution.

Program: Spooktacular Math and Mammals

Description: Students will learn about mammals by focusing on bats. They will also be creating a craft by way of solving math problems and they will also use problem solving skills in this 40-45 minute session.

Program: Don't Bug Me!

Description: During this video conference students will be learning about different types of insects, including Bugs and spiders. They will learn about the life-cycle of these tiny animals and will also be completing hands-on activities during the session.

Program: Corn: An a-Maiz-ing Food!

Description: Corn is an integral part of both human and animal food products, a vital part of the Ohio economy, and a versatile and popular U.S. Crop. Join us as we plow into the fun facts about the agriculture product, corn! As a part of this program, Ag Mags included for every student.

Program: Civil War Roots

Description: Join us as we look back at the period of American History, known as the Civil War. This session will discuss the root causes of the conflict, including slavery, but will focus on the overriding concerns and events of the time period leading up to and during the Civil War as well. It is told through the eyes of a plantation mistress.
This program is full of information, but is also highly engaging and thought provoking for your students.

Program: In All Probability

Description: Join us for this activity-filled video conference that helps your 3-5 grade student understand and practice the basic concepts of experimental probability. Enjoy a graphic rich, motivating lesson that will have your students actively practicing the probability of a series of experiments. Students will be mailed a packet of materials, and the teacher will also need M&M's as part of this video conference.

Program: Ocean Commotion

Description: Let’s dive into a marine adventure! Your 1st grade students will have a whale of a good time learning about some of the types of marine life that can be found in each of the World’s oceans. Included in the content of this lesson is the following: Mammals, endangered species, types of uncommon sea creatures, and other fun, Marine Animal facts. This class is appropriate for 1st grade students and includes a craft which will be assembled during the 35-40 minute video conference.

Program: The Ditch That Brought the World to the Wilderness

Description: Prior to 1825, transportation in the region known as Ohio was limited to walking or horse drawn vehicles. With the construction of canals starting in the year 1825, life changed for Ohio residents in many ways. This 45 minute video conference will introduce you to the community of Zoar, Ohio and that community’s way of life. It will also educate your students about the significance of the Canal Era in Ohio’s history. Join us as we share with you the changes the Canal construction brought to the community of Zoar. This session comes to you from the Historic Zoar Association, a living community that was built as a result of the Canal transportation method in Ohio.
